Fulani Herdsmen Storm Anambra West Local Government

Azubuike Nwadei

An eyewitness, Mr Orjiako Nnaluo (Ideh Anam) who spoke to journalists said that the herdsmen stormed farm settlements known as Agweopia Camp, Iyiogbu Camp and Iyinkolo, respectively around 5:40a.m and started killing people, burning houses and raping many women.

Mr Nnaluo said before people of the area could know what was going on, the herdsmen had killed six people, leaving about 30 others with various degrees of injuries.

The injured, he said, are currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

He called on the Anambra State government to quickly come to their rescue, saying that all the local farmers had all deserted the area.

He said that the farmers were trying to recover from a previous attack by the herdsmen, which he said claimed three lives.

He said the governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, was aware of the case and had promised to resolve it.

Speaking on the incident, the Anglican Bishop of Mbamili Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Henry Okechukwu Okeke, condemned the killings by the attackers, describing it as unfortunate, obnoxious and inhuman.

“This is a very unfortunate incident because these are core farmers. They are the food basket of Anambra State. Definitely, it is going to affect not only the economy of our state, but the country generally. It has been confirmed, I got the news this morning about the killings. Now, following the incident, farmers have left their farmlands. The Fulani people are also on the run. So, it is an unfortunate situation. I want to say it clearly that the Federal Government has the key. They must not sit down and watch people being killed by the herdsmen and their farms being destroyed. But Fulani men have been around here for some years now, but the recent destruction of farms has brought about unhealthy situations.

“The Federal Government actually has to do something. They should summon the leaders of the herdsmen and the rest of them. I think with that this fire can be quenched now. The government of Anambra State instructed farmers through their Igwes to allow herdsmen graze their cattle, but the word ‘allow’ must be interpreted because when you say allow, what do you mean? Is it to allow them to graze and destroy farms crops? Is it to allow them to continue to cause trouble? If you allow someone to stay in your land and do his business, there must be restrictions, there must be a border line, of course, you know that 99.9 per cent of Anambra West are farmers. They are farmers or do you expect farmers to fold their arms and watch the herdsmen kill them and destroy their farms? Anambra West is a hospitable environment people who are so much accommodating. They have accommodated the herdsmen over the years, who have turned against them, killing and maiming their hosts,“ the bishop said.

Bishop Okeke, however, advised the youths of Anambra West not to take the laws into their hands even as he called on the stakeholders to intervene, adding that Anambra West was vibrating as the youths have now prepared themselves against sudden attack by the herdsmen.

He further decried the lack of presence of security men in the council.

In the same vein, the Anambra West Youth President, Mr John David called on the youths to remain calm and law-abiding, noting that the issue would soon be resolved.

When contacted on phone, the Anambra State Police Command Spokesman, Mr Haruna Muhammed (SP) said: “How do you know they are Fulani herdsmen. The attackers are not confirmed yet. There was an incident at Anambra West Local Government Area and police are still investigating it.”

IPOB Statement on Harassment by Nigerian Police

Azubuike Nwadei

We the global family of the indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) consider it important to commend every IPOB member and our gallant volunteers who made it possible on our last outing despite the stupidity and predictable intimidation from the Fulani Police Commissioner in Anambra State. It takes courage to defend the freedom and rights of the oppressed, therefore what IPOB has done and continues to do in the face of overwhelming repression and brutality must be commended by all thinking people. We thank the Volunteer Squad across Biafraland for carrying the message of ‘no election’ into our towns and villages. Our peaceful event across Biafraland on Friday proves the total fomidablity and resoluteness on the side of Biafran citizens towards the collective effort to restore Biafra.

The one and only IPOB ably led by our supreme leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu must continue our evangelism and sensitization for Biafra referendum no matter the threats from Nigerian government and her security agencies. It is very pathetic and unbelievable to all Nigerians that Nigerian security forces, who has been receiving serious and consistent thrashing from Boko Haram terrorists operating in the North East of Arewa north without resistance, would summon the courage and temerity to go around Biafraland harassing unarmed civilians who are peaceful rallying on their own. The cowardly and wretched security agencies of Nigeria cannot confront and withstand Boko Haram terrorist but always find strength and courage in killing innocent Biafrans going about their lawful business.

It is important we remind this despotic Nigerian Government and her security forces that days are coming when they will no longer sneak up behind IPOB rally formations anywhere in Biafraland and be spared. During the recent peaceful street evangelism conducted by IPOB across Biafraland, only the Fulani police commissioner in Anambra State ordered his rag-tag police to attack our people because Obiano gave him the permission to do so.

IPOB Intelligence has discovered a grand plan by Obiano and his Fulani masters in Aso Rock to commence a mass arrest of innocent people in and around Nnewi town as a way of creating disunity amongst the people. Obiano and IG of Police are hoping to drive a wedge between Biafra frontline agitators and our people doing businesses in Anambra State. They have resorted to going after and arresting every able bodied person they come across. This morning they started what they termed house to house searching which is a cover for mass arrest and detention of innocent people. Now that Abba Kyari, the power behind the throne is reported to have died in London, anybody close to the Fulani cabal in Abuja must warn them to instruct Anambra State Police Command to stop the on-going harassment of innocent citizens and to immediately release the innocent traders they arrested on Friday evening.

The Nigerian government, Obiano and the Fulani Police Commissioner in Anambra State is playing with something bigger than them. If they continue this way, they will be resisted through means and ways they never thought possible.

We wonder why Nigerian government and her security agencies including Gov. Obiano would accuse IPOB members for their missing guns and rifles, when everybody knows that Nigerian police is the most corrupt institution in Nigeria and the very embodiment of lies. No sensible person believes the lies they concoct on a daily basis. IPOB doesn't move with guns and cannot do so until Biafra sovereignty is restored. We are warning Nigeria Government headed by Fulani caliphate including the Nigerian Police to leave IPOB family alone and release those arrested unjustly in the name of arresting IPOB family members.

Nobody or institution can stop our relentless march towards the fulfillment of our destiny as a people. That destiny is Biafra. If Nigerian government couldn’t stop us when they tried to kill our leader last year, is it now he’s in Israel they will stop us?
